STEM Project for Alissa’s First Graders
The students in Alissa Alteri Shea’s first grade were challenged to create a tall tower using 14 marshmallows and 30 toothpicks. Once complete, the students filled out a scientific journal to record their experiences and then created a “blueprint” of their projects. It was a noisy 30 minutes but the students used trial and error to create their towers and often asked their classmates for advice. A fun project for all!
Coral Reefs by Ms. Regan’s Second Grade
Angela Regan’s second grade learned that coral reefs have three major parts: coral, urchins, and fish. In small groups, the students created a headband and a physical movement to teach viewers facts about how coral reefs form, how urchins help coral, and what fish do in a coral reef.
