As part of their study on immigration, Mrs. K’s fourth graders spent a day reenacting immigrants journeys from various countries to Ellis Island at the turn of the century. Here is a video of their day.

Fourth graders in Vivian Kucinski’s class have been learning about immigration. As part of their learning, they research their own family’s immigration to this country. Each child then creates a newsletter which describes when their ancestors arrived in this country, where they originated from and family traditions they still celebrate. Students are encouraged to bring in family photos to enhance their story. Always a fun project to produce with the students!

The fifth graders took a hike on Leverett’s 4H trail and when they returned, composed poems on what they had seen. These poems will be mounted on the 4H trail for all to enjoy. Below are the poems the students created which can be viewed in full by clicking on them. To see the pictures from their hike, click to view Ms. Paglia Baker’s blog.
First graders have been learning about our US leaders, symbols, events and holidays. The students researched facts about the American Flag, the bald eagle, the White House and the Statue of Liberty. They learned how to locate on a US map Washington, DC and Boston and identify both as capitals. They learned the reasons why nationals and Massachusetts holidays are celebrated. They created images either by hand or with the software program KidPix. Using green screen technology, the class created a movie that shows all that they learned. They did a fabulous job!

Here’s a quick peak at some of the bulletin boards around school.
As part of their curriculum, fifth graders in Ms. Paglia Baker’s classroom are learning about world geography. The students, working collaboratively within groups of two or three, had to conduct interviews about their assigned continent to find out what others believed to be true about their assigned continent. The students then used the data from these interviews to identify the facts and the myths — becoming myth busters! The students had to research the data using books and websites. They had to locate a map and create place markers for a landform, a famous place and a water form related to the continent. They had to compile their data and create a “Top Ten” poster which listed facts and myths about the continent with 5 or more detailed descriptions of facts. The finished products are below. They did a great job with this project and learned how to work collaboratively with others and how to make a visually appealing poster. Click on each image to see it enlarged.
The Sixth Graders in Ms. Bull and Mr. Stewart’s classrooms are studying the 13 colonies. Using iPages, the students created broadside posters on a specific colony. They needed to include who and when the colony was founded, religious life, and work and land opportunities. Click on each image to see it fullscreen.
Students are taught about Internet safety at school. Here are some great tips for parents.
