Grade 6 Science Books

Students in Nikki Harper’s class were challenged to create earth science books for a third grade audience. Working in teams, the students researched their topics, created original illustrations, and using Comic Life, designed books to appeal to their third grade audience. Before their books could be published, each group had to present their books to a team of experts in the publishing field: Craig Cohen, Executive Publisher at PowerHouse Books and T. Susan Chang, author of A Spoonful of Promises: Recipes and Stories From a Well-Tempered Table. The final books are available below the photo gallery.

Grade 4 Regions Project

The students in Katrin Griswold’s class have been learning about the US regions. As a culminating project, they worked in small groups to create a WLES newscast using iMovie. Their informative, creative and fun movies about the regions are below:

Grade 2 Monster Project

Working in pairs, students in Karin Gravina’s Grade 2 technology class created a monster using KidPix, wrote a detailed description of their creation and typed it into Pages. The description was then given to another pair of students who had to re-create the monster using only the detailed description. This fun project challenges students to work collaboratively and to carefully write detailed descriptions of their monsters. Color, shape, size, and position are important details along with appropriate adjectives. Students were working on writing lab reports in Angela Regan’s classroom and this project aligned and complemented the lab report unit.
