Grade 5 Continent Myth Busters

As part of their curriculum, fifth graders in Ms. Paglia Baker’s classroom are learning about world geography. The students, working collaboratively within groups of two or three, had to conduct interviews about their assigned continent to find out what others believed to be true about their assigned continent. The students then used the data from these interviews to identify the facts and the myths — becoming myth busters! The students had to research the data using books and websites. They had to locate a map and create place markers for a landform, a famous place and a water form related to the continent. They had to compile their data and create a “Top Ten” poster which listed facts and myths about the continent with 5 or more detailed descriptions of facts. The finished products are below. They did a great job with this project and learned how to work collaboratively with others and how to make a visually appealing poster. Click on each image to see it enlarged.
