Megan and Nya are continuing their Shadows theme. They created their song first in Garageband, filmed the dance using a Flip camera, and then imported the movie into iMovie. Another creative movie by this duo. Stay tuned! They are currently working on their 4th installment.

Students ended the program with a flashmob dance to “Branching Out,” Track 12 on Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem’s 2010 cd entitled Ranky Tanky. Soloists were Jackson Blain and Naomi Cooper-Monize. The audience was then asked to participate. It was awesome! Great job everyone!

As part of the Grade 3 science curriculum students learn to identify the planets in our solar system and their characteristics. In Computer Information Class with Karin Gravina, students worked in pairs to research facts about a planet, prepared written notes and researched pictures to illustrate their podcast. Using iMovie, the students then organized their pictures and made their recording. This collaborative classroom project is a great way for students to demonstrate their knowledge of a particular topic. Along the way, students learn researching, writing, editing and teamwork skills.

As part of the Grade 5 Life Sciences curriculum with Mr. Stewart, students learn about how inherited characteristics may change over time as adaptations to changes in the environment enable organisms to survive and how changes in the environment have caused some plants and animals to die or move to new locations. As part of this unit, the students study endangered species.
In Information Literacy Class with Karin Gravina and Susan Wells, the students researched and typed their reports about their individual endangered species. As a final project, the students created a podcast which describes the various endangered species and what can be done to help save them. Using iMovie, the students organized pictures and made their recording. This collaborative classroom project is an ideal medium for students to demonstrate their knowledge of a particular topic. Along the way, students learned researching, writing, and editing skills.
